Inprocessing

Today I literally spent the whole day doing death by paperwork in a classroom of about 200 new soldiers. We did everything from our life insurance form to our travel voucher. When I say all day I literally mean from 0630 to to about 1600. Lots of people couldn't stay awake and got smoked or made to stand in the back of the room during the briefing and finance. The Command Sergeant Major and the Brigade Commander gave inspiring speeches and talked about the basics of why people fail here at Fort Gordon. Our only mission here at Fort Gordon is to pass classes, pass PT tests and get OUT of here and into the operational army as soon as possible. They talked a lot about the issues soldiers encounter while they are here. Suicides, shootings, illegal drugs, sexual assault (it happens to men MORE than you would think) are all "issues" that people run into here at AIT. I will go over more about the Commander and the Sergeant Major said about that stuff later as well as some statistics. I'm tired now and I'm hoping to be passed out by 2200.

Tomorrow is my last day of processing and I should be done by 1100. I will probably be put on some phase IV detail for the rest of the day. Classes are supposed to start Wednesday.

  1. One thing to keep in mind when you do "phase up" and you go out for weekend leave while at Ft. Gordon.... dont ever think that the uniform will save you from a speeding ticket or getting arrested in Augusta, GA. Those officers have to deal with shitbag privates all year round who think that they are above the law because they are wearing an army uniform. Soldiers are being shown even LESS mercy nowadays by the civilian law enforcement off base because a soldier, stationed at Ft. Gordon, shot and killed a Richmond County Sheriffs Deputy a few months back.

Another piece of advice I could give is to NOT be that guy who decides to take the money he earned in Basic Training and buy a suped up sports bike (or something analagous) with it. Every year, so many young soldiers have to have whats left of their bodies scraped up off of Augusta highways because they are away from home for the first time, they have no real bills of their own and all of this money to blow, so they buy a motorcycle that is way too powerful for them. Dont be that guy.

This is all coming from a Grovetown, GA native (a small town that butts up against Augusta and Ft. Gordon @ Gates 2 and 3) who is also the son of two Richmond County Sheriffs Deputies.
